China Denies Uyghur Muslim Forced Labour Allegation
China has been pulled up for human rights violation, specifically in the case of its treatment of the ethnic minorities settled in the country. A recent report shared by an independent new agency has discovered that Uyghurs were being forced into labour and long working hours.
As the United Nations (UN) gears up to open an independent enquiry into the ill-treatment of the Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region, China has been trying to convince everyone that the allegation against it our baseless and bogus. In response to the UN seeking the enquiry on the insistence of the European Commission, Xu Guixiang, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Committee, has been resistant Guixaing has informed a news briefing session last week that the “forced labour” story is ridiculous, and that workers from all ethnic groups in Xinjiang choose their jobs of their own free will and sign voluntary employment contracts in accordance with the law. There have been letters found by Uyghurs themselves, written and send to the US seeking some kind of respite. These letters were sent to human rights activists and journalists running independent news blogs.
The Uyghurs have lived confined lives, without sometimes access to modes of communication, meeting rights with relatives, etc. These are those inhabitants that have been confined to the infamous ‘re-educational camps’. Currently, Elijan Anayit, a spokesperson for the information office of the regional government, also denied reports that “re-education camps” in Xinjiang have “detained” over 1 million Uyghur people and said that this is a fabrication.
Rampant reports of mistreatment in the camps has been coming in through secret sources from within the camp itself. Chinese authorities believe that the religious beliefs of the Uyghurs Muslims are bogus and do not resonate with its state religion. Off late, conglomerates like Apple have discovered that in fact China had employed forced Uyghur Muslim labor. New documents discovered that Lens Technology, which makes iPhone glass received Uighur Muslim laborers transferred from Xinjiang. The company is owned by China’s richest woman Zhou Qunfei. Apple has confirmed zero tolerance for forced labors
China continues to force people into curtailed freedom of expression and speech, something that is rampant in its predominately, state owned leadership.
